Weebly > Website Construction ABCs
After you've setup your account and you've gotten barely familiar with the Editor and the Admin console it is time to start building your website. This is a quick over view of what you need to do. (I may add pictures or a video here shortly)...
We are going to start by deleting any and all pages they gave you by default, as that actually makes things easier. After that, we'll add 3 pages back and then you will start building your website.
We are going to start by deleting any and all pages they gave you by default, as that actually makes things easier. After that, we'll add 3 pages back and then you will start building your website.
- Step 1 -- Delete all pages but one. (it won't let you delete all pages)
- Step 2 -- Add three pages -- Home, About and Contact (all sites should have these or something similar). When you create each of these pages, change the first box under "header type" to "no header". This will make sense later.
- Step 3 -- Delete that last original page they gave you by default
- Step 4 -- Go to to Home page by clicking on that link in the editor. And add a "Title" Element by clicking on the Title block and dragging it onto your page and then letting up on your mouse button. Click in that area you just created and type "Home" .
Note: the title element should be titled "page section header" as that is what it really is. It has nothing to do with your website's Title. It was likely originally names for being the "page title" element -- but then people like me end up using it as a paragraph header too... - Step 5 -- Add a text element below your new title section with the same technique of dragging and dropping. Type something in it.
- Step 6 -- Add another "Title"Element below your new text area... and loop through this a few times until you have a few title sections and text sections.
And at this point you get the gist. It is very easy.
- To move elements, click outside of the element so it is not selected. Then hover over the element and you will see a rectangle in the top center of the element. Click on that and drag the element up and down. If you slide it next to an existing element it will create columns.
- Try to add some images to your page. Drag the element on the page and then upload images. You can add images as siblings to your title and text boxes, or you can actually embed them in the text objects.
- Take elements that are on the page and create columns by sliding one block next to another.
- Add a divider to the page.
- Add a spacer to the page.
- Add a map to the page
- Delete elements from the page -- click outside of an element so it is not selected. Hover over the element and click in the upper right hand corner.
- Copy and move elements to other pages -- click outside of an element so it is not selected. Hover over the element and click in the upper left hand corner. ( I don't use this that much. I personally jsut copy the text, go to the new page, insert an element and paste the text).
The embedded video shows the process I take to create website. These steps are generally detailed above in writing. I put it down here as opposed to the top to encourage you to read the information first...[video missing?]
